A prestigious tertiary-care hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is expanding its Cardiothoracic Surgery Program and is seeking a highly accomplished Consultant / Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join its elite surgical team. This role is designed for surgeons experienced in complex cardiac and thoracic procedures, supported by state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatres, advanced cardiac imaging, and comprehensive critical care services.

The hospital is developing a center of excellence for cardiac and thoracic care, integrating cardiology, cardiac surgery, pulmonology, anesthesia, and intensive care to deliver world-class outcomes for patients with complex cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.


Role Overview

• Position: Consultant / Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon
• Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
• Healthcare Setting: Multispecialty tertiary-care hospital with advanced cardiac and thoracic surgery services
• Experience Required: Minimum 3+ years post specialist or board certification
• Practice Model: Combination of outpatient consultations, elective and emergency surgeries, and inpatient critical care coordination

The successful candidate will be responsible for the surgical management of cardiac and thoracic diseases, ensuring high standards of surgical precision, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.


Key Responsibilities – Cardiothoracic Surgery

• Perform cardiac surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair/replacement, and complex cardiac surgeries
• Conduct thoracic surgical procedures, including lung resections, mediastinal surgeries, and treatment of thoracic malignancies
• Utilise minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical techniques where appropriate
• Manage pre-operative evaluation and surgical planning for cardiac and thoracic patients
• Provide post-operative care and monitoring, including coordination with ICU and critical care teams
• Collaborate with cardiologists, pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, and intensivists for comprehensive patient management
• Participate in heart team discussions and multidisciplinary case reviews
• Manage cardiothoracic surgical emergencies, including acute cardiac conditions and thoracic trauma
• Interpret advanced diagnostic imaging, including echocardiography, CT, and cardiac catheterisation data
• Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, surgical safety standards, and clinical governance policies
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and surgical records in compliance with regulatory standards
• Participate in clinical audits, research initiatives, and quality improvement programs
• Ensure compliance with international cardiothoracic surgical guidelines and UAE healthcare regulations


Qualifications & Board Recognition

• American Board of Thoracic Surgery
• UK CCT / FRCS (Cardiothoracic Surgery)
• European Board Certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Royal College Certification (Canada)
• Australian Fellowship (FRACS – Cardiothoracic Surgery)
• Arab Board in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• MCh / DNB / FCPS Cardiothoracic Surgery or equivalent recognised specialist qualification

Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for DOH / DHA / MOH licensing. Licensing guidance and support will be provided where applicable.
