Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Resume Writer for a part-time contract position to join our team, with the potential for expansion based on client demand. In this role, you will work closely with clients ranging from early-career professionals to mid-level managers, including international clients seeking to work in Canada. You will collaborate remotely via 1-on-1 Zoom or telephone consultations, delivering high-quality, ATS-optimized resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles tailored to their career goals. Opportunities to provide interview coaching and job search coaching may be added to your services, enhancing your impact with clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct 45-minute (or more) 1-on-1 consultations (via Zoom or telephone) to uncover clients’ career histories, skills, achievements, and goals, including those of international clients targeting Canadian job markets.
- Craft targeted, achievement-based resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles tailored to clients’ specific job targets and industries (up to management level) within the Canadian work environment.
- Optimize documents for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) using relevant keywords and industry-specific language aligned with Canadian job standards.
- Deliver polished, professional documents within 3 business days (or faster for express orders).
- Provide minor revisions or edits within 30 days of document delivery to ensure client satisfaction.
- Offer constructive feedback during free resume reviews to help clients, including international clients, understand how to improve their documents for Canadian employers.
- Stay updated on Canadian industry trends, job market demands, and ATS best practices to ensure top-quality deliverables.
- Optionally provide interview coaching and job search coaching to clients, leveraging your expertise to help them prepare for interviews and navigate the Canadian job market effectively.
Qualifications
- Must be located in Canada with strong familiarity with Canadian industries, work environments, and job market expectations.
- Proven experience in resume writing, career services, or related fields, with a focus on early-career to mid-level management professionals.
- Experience working with international clients seeking to relocate to Canada and navigate the Canadian job market.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and concise content that highlights clients’ unique strengths.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for conducting professional, empathetic, and collaborative client consultations remotely.
- Proven ability to work effectively over remote connections (e.g., Zoom, email) with reliable internet and a professional home office setup.
- Availability to accommodate some evening and weekend consultations to meet client scheduling needs, including those in different time zones.
- Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and how to optimize resumes for them, particularly for Canadian employers.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple client projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and virtual communication tools (e.g., Zoom).
- A passion for helping clients, including newcomers to Canada, succeed in their job search and achieve their career goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in resume writing (e.g., CPRW, CRS) or career coaching is a plus.
- Experience in interview coaching and job search coaching is a strong asset, as these services may be added to your responsibilities.
- Experience with LinkedIn profile optimization for the Canadian job market.
- Background in HR, recruitment, or career counseling within Canada.
