Companion Group is a AAA co-development gaming studio with a globally distributed and fully remote setup. It is renowned for overcoming the most intricate challenges in multiplayer game development. Our reputation precedes us as an excellent choice for clients aspiring to elevate their latest multiplayer titles, enabling scalability in player numbers, maximising player density, and crafting immersive gameplay experiences.

Embedded seamlessly within a client's in-house team, we collaborate harmoniously to turn dreams into reality. Our portfolio boasts groundbreaking games developed in collaboration with major studios worldwide. As a fully remote studio with colleagues across the globe, we value and emphasise clear, continuous and transparent communication as highly as technical skills.

As our Creative Director, you will lead the vision behind unforgettable gaming experiences.

You’ll be the driving force behind the creative direction of our co-development projects, guiding tone, story, gameplay, and visual style from concept to execution. Working closely with cross-disciplinary teams, you’ll ensure that every feature, environment, and interaction aligns with a cohesive, player-first experience. Your leadership, hands-on experience with Unreal Engine, and background in game design and 3D art will help shape projects that resonate with players and partners alike. We’re looking for someone who is adaptable to the needs of the team. Someone who can confidently present game ideas, and the capabilities of the team, while also being able and willing to jump in and help get projects over the line.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the creative vision across Companion’s co-development projects, ensuring alignment on tone, theme, art, narrative, and gameplay across all disciplines.
  • Craft compelling player experiences by understanding different player types and designing content that resonates across diverse demographics and playstyles.
  • Collaborate closely with game designers to ensure creative direction is deeply embedded in gameplay mechanics, systems, features, and live operations.
  • Align cross-disciplinary creative goals across art, game design, engineering, and narrative to ensure a unified vision throughout all player touchpoints.
  • Collaborate closely with art teams, including character art, environment art, technical art, VFX and UI to ensure the creative vision is realised across all visual elements.
  • Support new business by contributing to pitches and creative proposals, helping with new projects with clear creative direction.
  • Champion story and world-building, helping shape the emotional core of our titles while working closely with Unreal Engine to prototype and direct real-time experiences.
  • Mentor and manage across the creative teams (art and design) to help set clear creative goals, drive quality standards, and nurture professional growth.
  • Partner with publishing, marketing, and franchise teams to ensure creative consistency across trailers, cinematics, and promotional assets.
  • Oversee external partners and vendors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outsourced creative content that meets Companion’s internal benchmarks.
  • Drive innovation by contributing to early-stage R&D projects, helping explore new IPs and game mechanics with creative experimentation.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in game development, with a minimum of 2 shipped titles in a creative leadership role (AA or AAA).
  • Proven leadership in at least one of the following areas: game design or 3D art.
  • Demonstrated experience working hands-on with Unreal Engine in a creative capacity.
  • A track record of success delivering creative direction in a collaborative, fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong understanding of game systems, storytelling, and visual design with the ability to blend these into cohesive player experiences.
  • Proficiency with creative toolsets such as Unreal Engine, Maya, Substance, Photoshop, or equivalent.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to inspire teams and manage feedback loops,
  • Experience in managing relationships with stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Creative pragmatism — the ability to innovate within production constraints and maximise value across systems.
  • A passion for inclusive storytelling and building representative, emotionally engaging worlds.
  • Experience collaborating with marketing and publishing stakeholders to deliver consistent creative output across all player-facing content.

Rewards:

  • Established career ladder with progression opportunities, increased responsibilities, and compensation.
  • Fully remote role, enabling you to work from anywhere while collaborating with top games in the industry.
  • Work alongside our senior leadership team, which will inspire and mentor you.
  • The chance to be part of our exciting and passionate team.

Join our dynamic team and play a key role in shaping the future of online gaming experiences!
