Position Overview
Concorde Education is seeking an engaging, student-centered Music Teacher to facilitate a short-format after-school enrichment course for students (grade band varies by assignment). This course builds foundational musicianship through interactive, hands-on music-making experiences that may include rhythm activities, singing, basic instrumental exploration, listening and analysis, composition, and performance preparation, depending on the site’s needs and available resources.

Instruction should be inclusive and age-appropriate, with clear routines that support participation, confidence, and positive collaboration. The instructor will deliver instruction across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student readiness and site logistics.

What You Will Teach
Students will learn core music concepts such as steady beat, rhythm, melody, tempo, dynamics, and basic music notation (as appropriate). Lessons may include ensemble activities, call-and-response, instrument stations, simple composing/arranging tasks, and preparation for a culminating performance or showcase. Instruction can be adapted for general music, beginner ensembles, or theme-based units depending on assignment.

Major Topics Can Include

  • Classroom music norms and rehearsal routines (focus, respect, collaboration)
  • Rhythm fundamentals (steady beat, note values, patterns, counting)
  • Melody and pitch concepts (solfege basics, intervals intro level)
  • Tempo, dynamics, and expression (musicality and phrasing)
  • Listening skills and music appreciation (genre exploration, active listening routines)
  • Basic music notation and symbols (as appropriate to grade band)
  • Instrument exploration (percussion, keyboards, recorders, or site-provided instruments)
  • Ensemble skills (following a conductor/leader, entrances, cutoffs, blending)
  • Composition and improvisation (short motifs, rhythm compositions, soundscapes)
  • Music technology integration (as available and appropriate)
  • Performance preparation and etiquette (stage presence, reflection)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a 10-session course with clear objectives and engaging, hands-on instruction
  • Differentiate instruction to support varied skill levels and music experience
  • Establish routines for materials/instruments, transitions, and respectful participation
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive environment aligned with site policies and expectations
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
  • Adapt pacing and activities to student readiness and available resources while maintaining intended outcomes
  • Support students in preparing a culminating performance or demonstration (as applicable)

Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
  • Demonstrated musicianship and comfort teaching foundational music concepts
  • Experience working with school-age students in structured settings (school, after-school, camps, youth programs)
  • Strong facilitation skills, clear communication, and confident classroom presence
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
  • Comfort leading group music-making activities and managing materials/instruments safely
