About Democracy Club

Democracy Club is a non-profit Community Interest Company which builds and runs digital voter information tools. We run the UK’s national polling station finder (WhereDoIVote.co.uk), and a candidate lookup service (WhoCanIVoteFor.co.uk). We’re a data supplier to the Electoral Commission, and work with a wide range of government, media and third sector organisations.

Democracy Club is seeking a part-time Elections Assistant to help with the administration and dissemination of our voter information tools in early 2026. This non-technical position would suit someone with an enthusiasm for democracy and democratic participation, and a commitment to getting the details right. The primary responsibilities of the role involve managing a busy email inbox, desk research and data entry, but the successful applicant will become involved in other areas of our work depending on their skills and interests.

7 May 2026 will see devolved parliamentary elections in Scotland and Wales, and mayoral and local authority elections in England. This short fixed-term role will be involved in all of these elections, working with our partners in local government and collecting candidate details and other data.

We're a small and flexible organisation with a relaxed work culture. You'll get a chance to immerse yourself in civic and pro-democracy technology, and a unique perspective on UK elections.

This position is entirely remote, but we will hold one or two in-person meetings. There may also be the opportunity to attend events with us.

The role is three days a week, Mid-February to the end of May 2026.

Core Responsibilities

  • Managing our relationship with local government to collect and process data for our online polling station finder.
  • Researching election candidate information and monitoring our online candidate database.

Essential skills

  • Excellent written and spoken communication.
  • Organised with a good attention to detail (we use a lot of spreadsheets!).
  • Fast and adaptable learner, especially when it comes to using new software.
  • Comfortable working independently and on your own initiative.
  • Good understanding of and interest in UK politics.
  • Thoroughly non-partisan.

Possession of any of the following types of experience would be an advantage. Full training in the core elements of the role will be provided, but there is scope for working beyond this.

  • Customer relations.
  • External communications.
  • Quantitative analysis and research methods.
  • Knowledge of UK electoral processes, electoral law, and/or local government.

Please note that applicants must be UK-based with the right to work in the UK.

How to apply

Please submit a one page CV and a cover letter of approximately 350 words. Applications will not be accepted via email.

As this is a short-term role, we’re particularly interested to understand how it will fit within your own personal career trajectory and future plans.

Closing date is midday, Monday 1 December.
