Dexerto is looking for a talented music and trending news writer to join our US Editorial team, working remotely from home full-time, 5 days a week.
Do you have your finger on the pulse when it comes to the biggest artists and trending topics in the music industry? Do you also follow the latest news in the world of hip hop, rap, and pop music?
If you answered yes, this might be the job for you!
Together with your colleagues, you will be at the cutting edge of the music biz, covering the biggest trending news stories and lifting the veil on the spectacular, and often wacky, lives of the world's biggest artists.
Experience in writing for a publication is advantageous, but it is also important that you can demonstrate your passion and knowledge for the fast-paced world of music — be it beef between artists, explaining song lyrics, covering album release dates, tours, etc.
Make sure you are as detailed as possible in your cover letter about your passion for music, such as favorite artists, genres, albums, and the music news stories you tend to read about.
Requirements
- Understanding of the music industry, including knowledge of trending artists & songs, knowledge about artists' lives & drama, keeping up with album releases, and understanding the meaning of song lyrics
- A snappy and compelling writing style
- Fluent in English
- Able to write to short deadlines under pressure
- Have a keen attention to detail – can spot grammatical errors and fact check
- Creative ability – able to think of feature ideas and suggest news stories that will resonate with our audience
- Able to act independently on writing tasks
- Is confident with social media
- SEO knowledge desirable
- Own computing equipment that can run Photoshop and be able to use it competently
- Experience with content management systems is desirable
- Able to work full-time hours (40) without other education or job commitments
