Role overview
Do you want to be part of a world class team delivering lasting benefits for local communities? You will be a key member of the Parks Development Team responsible for our annual Parks Service communications plan. Your work will ensure we remain responsive to the increasing demands of all our visitors, and you will lead on actions to keep them up to date, informed and engaged about what we do.
You will need to be reactive to challenges that may arise all year-round while ensuring plans and processes are in place to meet project delivery timetables. You will be adept at devising and delivering consultation and engagement programmes that give us accurate qualitative and quantitative data, which you will also be skilled at analysing.
We are keen to expand our programme of community participation and engagement including our annual month-long Love Parks campaign, so your event and activity planning skills will also be key. We are looking for a team player who has strong self-motivation and the ability to work on personal initiative as well as in constructive collaboration with colleagues. You will have a passion for understanding communities and be confident gathering, analysing and disseminating information about green space visitors, whilst working to agreed consultation processes and timetables .
The role is for 40 hours a week based primarily in the Parks Development Office in Battersea Park. You will be expected to travel around Wandsworth to visit our sites on a regular basis to engage with our communities. We are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Job description
Responsible to the Biodiversity and Parks Development Manager for:
- Devising and implementing the parks service annual communications plan
- Working across Enable teams to deliver the annual month-long Love Parks campaign
- Devising and delivering all aspects of greenspace consultations and engagement sessions; to inform management plans, project delivery and to ensure we understand our visitor’s views.
- Gathering quantitative and qualitative data about how people use local green spaces via a range of methods including surveys, engagement sessions, geospatial footfall data, social listening, and stakeholder feedback.
- Creating an annual parks service communications plan, working with Enable’s communications team for aspects of delivery.
- Developing a range of environmental content, including posting on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, writing web content, press releases, designing posters, flyers, and utilising email marketing, community outreach and more (in line with the annual parks communications plan)
- Be responsible for developing and delivering our annual month-long Love Parks campaign including on-site events/ activities and the associated communications project plan. This will involve working with teams across Enable.
- Be responsible for developing and delivering other campaigns in line with the parks service plan, communications plan and requests from clients.
- Assisting colleagues with responding to enquiries from all users to allow us to identify any persistent issues. This will also include working to support our stakeholder officer to communicate with our key stakeholder groups.
- Be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating online and on-site consultations to allow us hear views from our users and the wider community on aspirations for improvements, to seek input into management and maintenance plans and to share details of and seek options choices for capital enhancement schemes.
- Be responsible for analysing a range of qualitative and quantitative data and presenting this in a variety of formats as appropriate for different audiences, including feeding back conclusions to our users, the wider community, our colleagues, and clients.
- Work with colleagues to provide evidence in support of our attainment of external quality accreditation for parks and green spaces, to contribute to benchmarking and to inform funding bids.
Person specification
Ideally you will demonstrate the following skills and experience but please apply even if you don’t feel you have proven competencies in every single area:
- Appropriate experience in a directly related post or educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant topic.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build working relationships with a diverse range of partners, meet the needs of different audiences, and to give constructive feedback.
- Experience of working in parks or landscape management environment, charitable environmental sector participating in the production and delivery of management plans, improvement projects and explaining maintenance actions.
- The ability to work independently using your own initiative and prioritise effectively whilst at the same time working collaboratively as part of a team on agreed programmes and projects to ensure effective communication with our clients and stakeholders.
- Be able to travel around Wandsworth regularly as work requires and able to work occasional additional early morning, evening, and weekend hours for which time off in lieu will be given.
- Skilled in organising and managing on-site and online consultation exercises with a range of stakeholders; organising events and activities which seek to secure the views and involvement of local communities in decision making.
- Experience of managing programmes of statistical data collection and of analysing quantitative data and presenting it concise reports for a variety of audiences.
- Expertise in analysing qualitative data and visitor feedback and ensuring that it can be effectively summarised and used to inform decision making.
- Skilled in developing organising and delivering on-site events and activities to “deliver more” for our communities.
- Proven ability of excellent writing and presentation skills including experience of devising and delivering communications plans.
- Experience of writing content that translates technical information for presentation to non-experts both on site and online (including social media platforms).
- Skilled in determining the best tools to use to reach different audiences and the ability to produce content appropriate to these delivery methods.
