Role Overview:
This role will be responsible for for leading the Specialist Tier 2 Learning Disabilities weight management service for Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich. Lead the design and delivery of multi-component lifestyle interventions, incorporating healthy eating, physical activity, sleep, emotional well-being, and behaviour change in accordance with NICE guidelines and best practices.
Build and maintain key relationships with Public Health teams, health professionals, learning disability services, and community organisations. The post holder will also be responsible for managing the referral process and generating enough referrals to achieve KPI’s and fill programmes.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:
Deliver a High-Quality and Effective Weight Management Service
- Responsible for leading and developing all aspects of the Weight Management programme. This includes planning development, delivery, promotion, and reporting.
- Recruit, train and manage delivery staff and volunteers to deliver the programme ensuring all members of the team are appropriately qualified. This includes rewarding and motivating the team.
- Develop partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery and growth of the programmes.
- Ensure the session content is tailored to the needs of adults with learning disabilities.
- Report on data to commissioners at monitoring and steering group meetings. Be confident and experienced in presenting information to stakeholders and commissioners.
Staffing and Venue Coordination
- Oversee staff across all three boroughs to ensure that there is an equitable service provided across all three boroughs.
- Being the first line resource for staff working in the community and referrers.
- Managing a programme rota to ensure that each borough has an equal number of programmes delivered.
- Support the programme coordinator with the administration of casual staff and community centres to ensure effective delivery of the programme.
- Line management of the programme coordinator, arranging and completing regular 1:1’s and performance development reviews.
- Develop partnerships and relationships with community centres across the three boroughs.
Stakeholder Engagement and Programme Promotion
- Responsible for engaging with the learning disability community in each borough, primary care and possible referrers into the service.
- Present and promote the programme to health professionals, including primary care, NHS Health Checks, Public Health, and other relevant bodies to increase referrals.
- Attend community events to promote the Tier 2 Learning Disabilities weight management programme and other services within the health and wellbeing department.
- Develop partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery and growth of the programmes.
Monitoring, Reporting and Data Management
- Maintain accurate and timely data entry on referrals, assessments, and programme participation, ensuring records comply with data protection regulations and contractual reporting requirements.
- Lead the monitoring and evaluation of programme outcomes and key performance indicators (KPIs), including weight management metrics, behaviour change indicators, and participant progress, aligning with contractual requirements and NICE guidelines.
- Analyse programme data to identify trends and areas for improvement, using insights to inform service enhancements and ensure continuous delivery of evidence-based interventions.
- Ensure the effective implementation and completion of required monitoring tools, such as ONS4, PAQ, and end-of-programme feedback questionnaires, to support robust service evaluation and quality improvement.
- Work collaboratively with the South East London evaluation framework to support evidence-based reporting and continuous service development.
Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge & awareness of relevant national, regional and local policies and initiatives within health, physical activity, public health and weight management, particularly as they relate to adults with learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of weight management and behaviour change models, emphasising a person-centered approach that aligns with NICE guidelines and best practices in learning disability support.
- Experience in delivering weight management or lifestyle behaviour change programmes, ideally within a multi-component framework that includes physical activity, healthy eating, and behaviour change strategies.
- Experience in engaging and supporting adults with learning disabilities, to participate in structured physical activity and health-related programmes, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
- Project management experience, including working with partner organisations to plan, deliver, monitor, and evaluate health and well-being programmes, ensuring alignment with service specifications and best practices.
- Experience in recruiting, managing, and training staff and volunteers, with a focus on capacity building, continuous professional development, and strategies to motivate and retain a skilled workforce in community health programmes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with service users, carers, professionals, and partner organisations across Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich.
- Holds an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification in public health, nutrition or dietetics to demonstrate expertise. Registered with a governing body, such as the Association for Nutrition (AfN) or British Dietetic Association (BDA).
- Commitment to own professional and personal development and willingness to undertake training and development as appropriate to the role.
- Flexibility; able to work at multiple locations, and work hours required by post including early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank/public holidays.
