We’re growing and looking for experienced and successful Solar PV Design Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to help grow our business to help deliver integrated low-carbon solutions across commercial projects.

As a Solar PV Design Engineer you will be responsible for designing, optimising, and maintaining solar PV systems, ensuring they meet the unique energy requirements and expectations of our diverse clientele. You will have a deep understanding of solar photovoltaic and ESS systems, including design, engineering, and installation processes. You will utilise your expertise in electrical engineering to create efficient and cost-effective solar and ESS power solutions tailored to client needs while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance. Additionally, your exceptional communication skills will enable you to liaise effectively with both internal stakeholders and our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with British and MCS standards, design solar PV and ESS systems (commercial) from initial concept through to final engineering drawings, schematics and specifications for both roof and ground mounted systems. These may include EV charging requirements.
  • Perform detailed site assessments to assess solar feasibility, including analysing environmental, structural, and electrical considerations.
  • Perform energy usage analysis based on HH data or obtained real-time data to assist in understanding the optimal design and specification.
  • Develop and optimise system layouts and configurations using specialised design software (e.g., Open Solar, Sketch-up, PVsol, Helioscope, AutoCAD, and/or similar tools).
  • Ensure that all designs comply with regulations, and industry standards.
  • Calculate energy yields, perform shading analysis, and assess system performance based on site-specific conditions.
  • Advise on suitability and sizing of ESS systems to complement solar PV systems specific to individual client projects.
  • Collaborate with project manager, departmental support staff, Head of Department, sub-contractors, and installation teams to verify and ensure the smooth execution of designs.
  • Conduct system electrical and mechanical design, including equipment sizing, wiring, protection devices, and interconnection.
  • Provide technical support and training to installation and commissioning teams.
  • Support procurement teams by accurately specifying appropriate components (modules, inverters, mounting systems, etc.) that meet system specifications and adhere to budget.
  • Review and validate quotes to ensure they align with project budgets and technical requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, reports, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues during system implementation or operation.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and government regulations related to solar PV systems.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.

Previous experience and proven success of designing commercial solar PV solutions is essential.
