The Company aims to build and operate leading independent storage, distribution and throughput terminals in Southern Africa. To achieve this, it needs to execute projects and maintain assets and technology that delivers an attractive value proposition for shareholders and maintains a distinctive competitive advantage. It therefore has included the role of the Technical Manager within its staff establishment as a key driver of the cultural and systematic approach towards achieving excellence in these areas
The key accountabilities of the Technical Manager are to ensure that projects are delivered within budget, schedule and scope, that maintenance is completed in accordance with all the Group and Business Unit (BU) standards and policies, the maintenance of Engineering standards and processes, the analyses and reporting of root cause analyses of safety critical and incidents affecting operational delivery to targets and strategy, analyses of trends to have a proactive approach to operational excellence and shaping the future fit organisation through OT/IT systems, processes and technology.

Tertiary Qualification
- Completed 4-year Engineering Degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or equivalent
- Pr. Eng. registration or a development plan to acquire P. Eng. registration with ECSA
- MBA or GCC (Factories) would be advantageous
Experience
- 10-15 years project management experience preferably in the development, design, construction, commissioning and maintenance of a terminal, refinery or petrochemical plant
- Experience in leading technical, project and maintenance teams
- Leading automation teams
- 5+ years Terminal experience preferred
- Experience in leading significantly sized projects
- Experience in establishing and embedding engineering know-how and discipline across all disciplines
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally
Skills/Attributes Required:
- Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines used in the terminal industry such as American Petroleum Institute, American National Standard Institute, National Fire Protection Association, International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals, Oil Companies International Marine Forum
- Experience creating, managing and adhering to a budget;
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Experience working in safety critical environment; strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and security principles
- Knowledge of Company SHE policies and procedures
- Ability to translate technical plans into easy-to-understand laymen’s terms and communicate such translations in clear terminology
- Ability to develop teams, embed Vopak standards (Operator to standard culture) and establish agile culture for customer service enhancement
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, MS Project, various email and internet programs and applications; computer-based design experience preferred
Knowledge Required:
- Well versed in SHE risk assessment methodologies such as Quantitative Risk Assessment,
- Environmental Impact Assessment, Hazard and Operability study
- Planning & Organising Skills
