TL;DR

The Product Designer role is about making the life of our users a little bit easier every day. You will collaborate constantly with the Product & Tech teams on problem definitions that will become easy-to-use solutions after you take ownership of it and learn from our users, and past iterations, before making vague personal assumptions.

We are looking for people with:

  • Over 3 years of Product Design experience designing software products from kick-off to ship. Experience on B2B SaaS is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience applying user-centred methods in order to better understand the audience and ship work that meet the user needs at scale.
  • Yet, has a pragmatic approach to design and knows that speed is important. You call for user researches when needed, but you also feel comfortable placing bets and learning along the way.
  • Persistence and adaptability to ensure that your product and team are successful.

Language Requirements: Proficient in English. Spanish and Italian are a plus.

Location: Remote (European timezone required). You can also work from our offices in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) or Italy (Milan and Turin).

What makes Katoo unique?

We want to make a change in the industry and take suppliers & restaurants to 2021 - by giving them access to the best digital tool and making their operations faster, cheaper and more efficient.

To get there, we are focused on hiring people who shares our values and principles. We call it TACOS ๐ŸŒฎ:

Tenacity: we focus on impact.

Ambition: we make big, bold bets.

Client-first: we are bounded to our clients.

Ownership: we are all bosses.

Socialisation: we foster socialisation between cross-functional departments.

Ok, but what is the Product Designer role about?

In sum, the Product Designer role is about making the life of our users a little bit easier every day. You will collaborate constantly with the Product & Tech teams on problem definitions that will become easy-to-use solutions after you take ownership of it and learn from our users, and past iterations, before making vague personal assumptions.

We are hiring multiple Product Designers that will complement each other - from Discovery to Implementation - in order to form a stronger team. You don't have to fulfil all the points below. But, as a team, Product Designers at Katoo are responsible for:

  • Solve relevant problems. That's the nature of your role and you will be responsible for understanding product requirements and their goals (as well as collecting the necessary information) in order to make it happen.
  • Understand and work for our users. You will do whatever is necessary (user interviews, shadowing, participatory design, prototypes, usability testing... you name it) to understand our users' needs and concerns and guarantee it is always valued.
  • Own the user experience. You have to master how our mobile and desktop apps integrate with the customer's lives - online and offline - and be continuously looking for ways of improving it.
  • Design consciously. Most problems don't need us to reinvent the wheel. Speed is an important variable and we look for people who solve complex problems in simple ways. By the way, we use Figma. If you come from Sketch, no worries. You will pick it up quickly.
  • Handoff your work to the Tech team. Product Designers own the job of carefully documenting how the app should work. Our Engineers colleagues own the job of making it happen according to your guidelines.
  • Measure the impact of shipped work based on previously defined goals, and take action when necessary.
  • Maintain and evolve our Design System. You may even give it a name ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  • Build and evangelise voice & tone guidelines to help us communicate effectively and cohesively with our users.
  • Amplify the user's voice within the company. You will grow our user feedback's database, create customer journeys, personas, etc. in order to help your fellow designers and other departments understand and empathise with our users.
  • Foster a culture of cross-team collaboration and decision-making supported by data while not ignoring strong intuition from previous experiences.
  • Run and participate in Design Critiques. A culture of healthy feedback is not only encouraged but required. Why go alone if we can make progress together?
  • Contribute to the evolution of our product vision, strategy and development methods.
  • Collaborate on the definition of OKRs.

What about the person you're looking for?

We look for someone who has:

  • Over 3 years of Product Design experience designing software products from kick-off to ship. Experience on B2B SaaS is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience applying user-centred methods in order to better understand the audience and ship work that meet the user needs at scale.
  • Yet, has a pragmatic approach to design and knows that speed is important. You call for user researches when needed, but you also feel comfortable taking certain risks and learning along the way.
  • Persistence and adaptability to ensure that your product and team are successful.

It will be fundamental that this person believes and practices the following values:

  • Organised & Autonomous: as we grow, teams will start focusing more on specific initiatives (we are hiring for that!). However, until this happens the short-term reality will be a mix of multiple projects in different phases.
  • Clear communication: the Product Designer will be constantly involved in cross-team collaboration. Communicating effectively is fundamental to make sure all teams are aligned and fully contextualised.
  • User-centred: we value people who focus on generating a positive impact on our customers. Product Designers are seen as the guardian of the users' and must work to learn more about them and preserve their interests while meeting the company's business goals.
  • Analytical & Iterative: you know that shipping features is easier than creating and increasing engagement. You take a hands-on approach to your design and is encouraged by iterations on how to make it better. You seek and give constructive feedback and data analysis on your and your team's work.
  • Collaborative and lightweight: we work as a team, not as individuals. We ask every team member to consider the impact of your work on others and look for ways of improving and growing together.
  • Be yourself. We believe diversity is a requirement for successful teams. We would rather have intense constructive debates than a room where everyone thinks the same way.

  • Async work is encouraged, but sync work is also needed. Although we would love to have you working whenever you feel like doing it, we are conscious of our organisation limitations at the moment. We are growing fast and adapting on the way. Because of this, we require the team to work on Central European Time to be enough time in sync with the rest of the team.
