A unique opportunity for an experienced Unity developer to work at one of the leading AI companies in the video game industry. Full-time position based in Edinburgh, UK with options for flexible/hybrid working, or fully remote working within the UK

—

Are you interested in joining a team working on one of the foremost technologies in the video game industry today? Our middleware, Kythera AI, is the most advanced end-to-end AI solution on the market. We provide our technology to studios ranging from independent to AAA in a broad range of genres, support them in delivering great games with exceptional AI, and work side by side with a select few to directly shape AI in their titles.

Founded in Edinburgh, UK in 2013, and now recently backed by VC funding, we have grown to be perhaps the largest independent developer of video game AI in the world.

Our mission is to fill virtual worlds with intelligent life in games and beyond - building from our core focus in video game AI into wider industries such as simulation and interactive broadcast media, bringing the new digital worlds of the future alive.

Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Unity developer who would like to focus on AI applied to games and lead in the development of our Unity package from a beta state, through early evaluations to a well-polished and market-leading new product. You must have a passion for well factored, maintainable code, excellent technical problem-solving skills, a strong understanding of low-level programming and performance concerns, and the organisational and management skills required to provide technical leadership to a diverse team of engineers.

Your duties will include

  • Leading a small team of AI developers in bringing this new product to market
  • Supporting your team members in their development and growth
  • Designing and developing cutting-edge features for the Kythera AI middleware
  • Working closely with customers to develop features to fit their needs, resolve their problems, and assist in integrating and making the most out of Kythera
  • Maintaining a focus on ease-of-use and designer content-creation velocity
  • Prioritising and planning tasks for your team
  • Sharing relevant knowledge to the rest of the company through discussion, documentation and presentations
  • Building and managing relationships with industry partners
  • Investigating and resolving bugs and performance issues

Experience that will aid success

  • Strong experience of working in Unity
  • Experience with common game AI systems (behaviour trees, navigation meshes, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with programming in C++
  • Experience in working across multiple time zones
  • A passion for high quality, well-factored, maintainable, reusable code
  • Confident maths skills, in particular vector maths and trigonometry
  • Experience with managing small teams
  • Good communication skills, including written and spoken English language skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Working with and supporting external customers or 3rd parties
  • Experience with .NET Platform Invoke (P/Invoke)
  • Using wrapper generators (CppSharp, SWIG or similar)
  • Visual Studio development
