Role: Learning Mentor - SEND Support (Community-Based Education)
Location: Plymouth
Start: As soon as possible (September starts also available)
Salary: £16 - £18 per hour
Long-Term Teachers are proud to be working with a progressive, person-centred education provider in Devon, offering a unique opportunity for Learning Mentors to join their dynamic and growing team. These roles focus on supporting young people aged 16 - 25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through real-world, community based learning.
About The Role:
As a Learning Mentor, you’ll work 1:1 or in small groups with young people who have EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans), guiding them through personalised learning programmes that take place in community spaces such as libraries, leisure centres and supported workplaces. Your role is to help learners build confidence, independence and essential life skills, while also supporting progress towards accredited qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor and support students with SEND in community settings
- Facilitate engaging, inclusive and practical learning sessions
- Promote emotional wellbeing and personal development
- Collaborate with tutors, families and external professionals
- Support the achievement of both academic and personal goals
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with young people is essential. Experience with SEND or additional needs is highly advantageous
- Empathetic, dependable and enthusiastic about inclusive education
- Flexible and confident working independently in a variety of environments
- Creative, proactive and able to adapt sessions to suit individual learner needs
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport (essential for travel between locations)
