A specialist school in Exeter is on the lookout for a full-time Outdoor Learning Mentor. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity where you’ll be supporting students aged 5–16 who have been excluded from mainstream education and often face challenges including SEMH, SEN, or EHCPs.
About the role:
This isn’t a job where you’re stuck in the classroom Monday- Friday. As an Outdoor Learning Mentor, your role is to help re-engage young people in education through meaningful, real-world learning.
Your "classroom" could be:
- Building confidence in the woods
- Exploring science on the beach
- Discovering marine life at an aquarium
- Building trust on a climbing wall
- Learning teamwork through outdoor games
We believe connection comes before curriculum, and for many of our students, the outdoors is where they begin to feel safe, seen, and successful.
Requirements for the role
- Experience in care, youth work, sports coaching, outdoor education, or SEN/mainstream schools
- A full UK driving licence, your own car, and business insurance – you’ll be transporting students to and from activities, so this is absolutely essential
- A love for the outdoors and a passion for helping young people reconnect with learning
- Resilience, empathy, and the ability to build strong, positive relationships
