I am working with a vibrant primary school located in Chippenham where pupils’ personal development is a strength. The school has created an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum for pupils. They value working together to become imaginative and creative learners through inclusion, respect and kindness. This school also has excellent opportunities for children to learn outside of the classroom environment with qualified Forest School practitioners working with groups of children in both the school grounds and local woodland areas.

This school has an exciting opportunity for a resource base SEND teaching assistant to join both Key Stage 1 and 2. You will play a vital role throughout the school developing children's educational, emotional and social development by working with groups of children in a resource base offering a more tailored approach to their learning. It is important you gain an understanding of each child's individual needs, whether working 1:1 or as part of a group.

Responsibilities:

  • Adapting lesson materials, making them accessible to  pupils.
  • Providing one to one support during class.
  • Reinforcing learning objectives set by the teacher.
  • Assisting with literacy and numerical tasks breaking them down into more manageable steps.
  • Understanding the individual needs of pupils to best support them in class.
  • Helping pupils transition between the resource base and mainstream schooling.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with SEND children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with the pupil, parents and colleagues effectively.
  • Patience, empathy and resilience to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Relevant qualifications and training in supporting children with SEND.
  • An understanding of relevant safe guarding and child protection procedures.
