SEMH Senior Learning support assistant

Starting September

Permanent

Pay: £28,000

Wiltshire, SN2

I am working with a diverse and inclusive specialist provision school offering a supportive and nurturing environment for learners from Reception to Year 11, with complex Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health or medical needs which have prevented them from successfully engaging in or attending school. Their vision is that every learner is educated at the right place, at the right time. Learners will receive ‘early help and early intervention’ allowing them to remain in mainstream schools successfully. They provide an ambitious and bespoke curriculum that is broad and balanced, but adapted and personalised.

This school has an exciting opportunity for a SEHM learning support assistant to join their team on a permanent basis starting September. You will play a crucial role in providing support of the highest quality to learners whose SEMH needs present as a barrier to accessing and engaging with mainstream education and need a specialist educational and therapeutic environment,  ensuring that learners are prepared for adulthood so they can live healthily, independently, and successfully transition into employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting emotional and mental health needs building trusting and supportive relationships in line with the schools ethos
  • Providing a calm and consistent presence to children, encouraging self esteem and resilience.
  • Support positive behaviour strategies using de-escalation techniques.
  • Adapt classroom material to meet the individual needs of each child working to maintain classroom engagement.
  • Communicate with teachers, SENCOs and parents about the well being and performance of children.
  • Understand and follow safeguarding policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications for the role.
  • Experience working with children, especially those with SEHM needs.
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy and emotional resilience.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
