Long-term Teachers is recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provision in Swindon, looking for an SEN Teacher to lead learning in the classroom and manage a team of dedicated support staff. This is more than just a teaching job — it’s a chance to drive meaningful outcomes for children and young people (CYP) with complex and diverse needs.

 

About the Role

 

You’ll lead a class of children within a specialist setting, supported by a strong team of teaching assistants. This role blends high-quality teaching with key responsibilities in leadership, planning, multi-agency collaboration, and whole-school development.

Working under the guidance of the Headteacher and as part of the wider school improvement strategy, you’ll play a vital part in curriculum delivery, individualised learning plans, and the pastoral care of pupils.

Key Responsibilities

 

Deliver consistently high-quality, inclusive teaching for children with SEND.

Lead and manage a team of classroom assistants to ensure effective support.

Set, monitor and evaluate termly targets, IEPs, and pupil outcomes.

Create a nurturing, stimulating classroom where every child feels safe and supported.

Support and implement school policies and development plans.

Liaise with external agencies, contributing to a multi-agency approach for each child.

Write detailed reports for annual reviews and share regular progress updates with parents.

Maintain high standards of behaviour, safety and emotional wellbeing in line with school policy.

 

What We’re Looking For

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND

Strong understanding of SEN provision, assessment strategies and classroom adaptations

Ability to lead, mentor and motivate support staff

Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Good ICT skills and the ability to use tech to enhance learning

A caring, reflective, and flexible approach to teaching

 

Desirable (but not essential):

SEN qualifications or training (e.g. PECS, TEACCH)

Experience with P Levels and leading a subject area

Familiarity with IEPs, EHCPs, and annual review processes
