Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can lead the development of Marqo's open-source code base. This individual has a deep understanding of system design, computer science fundamentals, and software engineering best practices. They will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions to challenging software engineering problems, such as building kNN retrieval systems and developing resilient distributed applications.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have a significant impact on our open source users and our cloud product. Your work will involve developing a search database with technical guarantees, collaborating with customers and users to implement new features, and providing expert guidance to the engineering team. You will own your solutions from design to production and take on a leadership role for technical aspects of the product.
In this role, you will work closely with top machine learning scientists to productionize cutting-edge machine learning models. Marqo's machine learning works across multiple types of unstructured data, like images and text, and utilizes popular frameworks like PyTorch, Huggingface, and ONNX.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent Engineering discipline.
- 6+ years of experience as a software developer.
- Deep experience with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or another noSQL database.
- Experience designing, implementing and then maintaining impactful production applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated technical leadership in commercial/large scale system software development and delivery.
- Expertise in approximate-kNN search systems is highly desirable.
- Experience in building (any of) information retrieval, search, recommendation, machine learning, natural language processing, database, distributed systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to clarify and formalize complex problems.
- Strong leadership skills and a track record of mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
