Glazing Estimator

Position Overview
As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in my client's team, preparing material and quantity take-offs from architectural drawings and managing the estimating department. This role involves producing high-value tenders, collaborating with various stakeholders, and seeking new clients. Your expertise in building envelope estimating will be essential in ensuring the accurate and competitive pricing of their projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed material and quantity take-offs from architectural drawings.
- Produce product breakdowns for costing and manage all costs associated with tendered estimates.
- Collaborate with the Sales Manager to produce tenders for architectural glass and glazing projects.
- Review project specifications, addendums, and scopes of work to provide accurate lump sum tender prices.
- Conduct product take-offs from drawings to determine necessary products and quantities.
- Request material quotes and populate estimates for glazing tenders.
- Revise estimates based on post-tender addendums.
- Work with peer groups to ensure high-quality quotation documents and competitive pricing.
- Obtain and track subcontract bids, negotiating budgets as needed.
- Maintain job files and project digital databases.
- Attend project, client, and senior management meetings as required.
- Participate in pre-tender site meetings to prepare accurate estimates.
- Track project progress, alerting management to any delays or issues.
- Process submittals and project approvals.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Apply continuous improvement principles in daily tasks and operations.
Qualifications
- Mandatory experience with unitized curtain wall and stick curtain wall systems.
- Familiarity with local brands such as Kawneer, Alumacor, and Oldcastle.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial glazing and larger construction projects.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Estimating Software.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- College or postgraduate degree in civil engineering, construction engineering technology, architectural technology, or related field.
- Valid driver’s permit and ability to work extra hours to meet project deadlines.
