Estimator – Power & Utilities

We’re supporting a growing power connections business that delivers projects across the UK.
They’re looking for an Estimator who’s comfortable building pricing for civil and electrical works in the power networks space — ideally up to 132kV.
This isn’t a general construction estimating role.
You’ll need to understand how things work in a DNO/IDNO/ICP environment, and be familiar with electrical systems associated with connections, substations and cabling.
The role
You’ll take ownership of pricing — reviewing drawings, pulling together quotations, and helping build tender submissions clearly and accurately.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, as well as suppliers and subcontractors, to make sure budget assumptions are realistic and transparent.
What you’ll be doing
Preparing cost estimates for civil & electrical packages within power projects (substations / cabling / compounds etc.)
Reviewing drawings, scope & tender documents
Producing BOQs and breakdowns
Sourcing/assessing supplier & subcontractor quotes
Pulling together tender submissions & inclusions/exclusions
Attending pre-bid meetings + client discussions where helpful
Updating forecasts if design or scope shifts
Contributing to risk tracking and compliance
Supporting cost handover post-award
Must-haves
✔ Experience working within DNO / IDNO / ICP environments
✔ Understanding of electrical systems (HV/LV, substations, cabling)
✔ Ability to interpret drawings & technical docs
✔ Estimating experience — civil and/or electrical
✔ Comfortable working with suppliers & internal teams
✔ Strong Excel + estimating tools
✔ Full UK driving licence
If you don’t have DNO/IDNO/ICP experience, this won’t be the right fit.
Nice to have
Experience with 33–132kV environments
Exposure to substations, OHL/UG cabling
Renewables / EPC project experience
Familiarity with SAP, Oracle or similar
BOQ experience across civils & electrical
