Hi, we’re Penfold - we’re on a mission to help everyone save enough to be comfortable in later life! 🚀
There’s over a trillion pounds sitting in UK pensions – but most of it is with legacy providers offering outdated products and poor service. We’re here to change that.
Penfold is building the pension of the future – a modern, tech-first platform that makes saving for later life easy, engaging and accessible for everyone.
We’re a growing team of 60+ builders across London and Tallinn, backed by some of the world’s leading FinTech investors. Having raised £25M+, we manage £800M+ in pensions for over 100,000 savers and thousands of businesses — and we’re on track for profitability next year.
As one of our first 60+ hires, you’ll play a key role in shaping our culture and have loads of opportunity to grow, progress and make your mark.
About the role
We’re looking for a Reconciliation Specialist to join our Operations team. Think of this role as being the guardian of “where the money’s at”. Every penny and every unit of investment needs to be tracked, matched, and reconciled — and you’ll be the one making sure the numbers tell the truth.
You’ll take ownership of our client money and asset reconciliation processes, making sure we meet our obligations under trust law and FCA rules for pension trustees. Translation: you’ll help us keep our customers’ futures safe, secure, and accounted for.
What You’ll Do
- Run daily reconciliations to make sure our records match what’s in the bank.
- Check member assets with custodians and fund managers so everything balances.
- Investigate when things don’t quite add up (and you like getting to the bottom of mysteries).
- Report reconciliation outcomes and exceptions to the people who need to know — from management to auditors.
- Keep our processes sharp, documented, and up to date.
- Spot opportunities to automate the boring stuff (and work with Product & Engineering to make it happen).
Support audits and regulatory reviews (you’ll make friends with the auditors in no time).
What We’re Looking For
- 2–4 years’ experience in reconciliations or ops in pensions, custody, asset management, or financial services.
- A solid understanding of trust law and FCA obligations for pension trustees.
- A detail-obsessed, process-driven brain — you notice when things don’t line up.
- Comfortable wrangling data (Excel wizardry a must; SQL or reconciliation tools a plus).
- A clear communicator who works well with teams like Finance, Operations, Product, and external partners.
- Proactive, adaptable, and calm under pressure.
Bonus Points For
- Experience with trustee or custody operations.
- Knowledge of investment custody or asset reconciliations.
- Audit/regulatory experience.
- Automating reconciliations or building reporting tools (less copy-paste, more brainpower).
