Job Description:
Are you passionate about shaping the future of space technology? Join PierSight Space! PierSight
Space is a young startup building world’s largest constellation of Synthetic Aperture Radar and
AIS satellites for most extensive surveillance of oceans. The startup is backed by Institutional
investors like Alphawave Global (Investor in SpaceX), Elevation Capital, All in Capital
and Techstars (In collaboration with NASA and US Space Force).
The Power Electronics Technician will support power electronics and power system engineers
in the integration, testing, and checkout of spacecraft power subsystems and units. The role
involves hands-on work with high-reliability space hardware, test setups, and ground support
equipment to ensure that all power electronics perform as per mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist engineers in the functional testing, characterization and acceptance testing of
spacecraft power electronics units such as DC-DC converters, Power Control &
Distribution Units, Electronic Power Conditioners, battery charge regulators and load
switches.
• Set up, operate and monitor laboratory and ground test benches using programmable
power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analysers
and data acquisition systems for unit- and subsystem-level testing.
• Execute tests as per approved test procedures, including applying the required
configurations, running test sequences, recording measurements and events, and
promptly reporting any anomalies to the responsible engineers.
• Carry out fabrication and assembly of custom magnetics (transformers, inductors,
chokes) as per the designer’s specifications, drawings and workmanship guidelines.
• Assemble, wire, modify and repair test harnesses, breakout boxes and special test
equipment in accordance with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and workmanship
standards.
• Carry out basic fault-finding on power electronics hardware and associated test setups
under the guidance of engineers, using standard test instruments and documented
diagnostic methods.
• Support thermal vacuum, vibration and EMC/EMI test campaigns for power units by
operating and monitoring power-related ground support equipment as instructed by test
engineers.
• Take part in pre-test reviews and post-test debriefs, and provide practical feedback on test
procedures, fixtures, setups and overall test efficiency.
• Strictly follow cleanroom, ESD control and safety procedures while handling
space-grade electronic assemblies, connectors and harnesses.
Required Qualifications:
• Diploma, ITI or B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics or a closely related branch.
• Around 1–4 years of practical experience in testing, integration or maintenance of power
electronics or electronic systems such as avionics, automotive, industrial or aerospace
equipment.
• Good hands‑on skills with laboratory instruments, including oscilloscopes, power
supplies, electronic loads, digital mutimeters and function generators.
• Some exposure to automated test setups and data logging, and the ability to use simple
scripts or tools (for example Python or LabVIEW) to support test automation.
• Basic working knowledge of DC‑DC converters, power distribution, protection features
like OVP, OCP and OTP, and common battery interfaces.
• Willingness and ability to work in cleanroom or controlled lab environments around
flight hardware, while strictly following safety and quality procedures.
Key Competencies:
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to procedures.
• Problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn new test methods and tools.
• Team player who can work in shift or extended hours during critical test campaigns.
• Good communication skills to interact with design, system, and test engineers.
