Job Role: Space Mechanism Engineer
Industry: Space Technology
Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Employment Type: Full-time
Years of Experience: Minimum 1-2 years
About PierSight Space:
PierSight Space is pioneering the development of India's first SAR+AIS satellite constellation, aimed at providing persistent maritime surveillance. Our mission is to address critical challenges such as illegal fishing, oil spills, and maritime security through cutting-edge space technology. Join our dynamic team to contribute to transformative projects that have a profound impact on the future of our oceans.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer specializing in design and development of space mechanisms like deployable systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanisms concepts like kinematic and dynamic simulations, hinge design and mechatronics systems for space environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform kinematic and dynamics simulations using ADAMS. Predicting joint forces, velocity and acceleration during the motion profile.
- Exploration of facts with space mechanism standards. Selection of bearings, lubrication and prediction of tribological properties.
- Perform structural analyses (static, dynamic, and thermal) on electronic and mechanical components using tools such as NASTRAN, ANSYS, or similar FEA software.
- Evaluate stiffness, strength, and durability of equipment and subsystems, ensuring compliance with space qualification standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop mechanical design concepts for chassis, enclosures, and PCB mounts, addressing system requirements and constraints.
- Conduct design calculations, Tolerance stack-up analyses, and support the development of mechanical design concepts.
- Validate designs through testing, including vibration, shock, and thermal tests, and analyze results to inform design improvements.
- Generate comprehensive analysis reports, mechanical test procedures, and documentation to support design validation and manufacturing processes.
- Support manufacturing by addressing structural concerns and implementing design modifications to enhance producibility.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in design and development of Mechanisms, preferably in the space, aerospace or defence industry.
- Proficiency in finite element analysis tools (e.g., NASTRAN, ANSYS, ADAMS) and CAD software (e.g., Autodesk, SolidWorks, Creo).
- Good understanding of materials science, fatigue evaluation, and life assessment of electronic equipment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Space mechanisms standards adopted worldwide.
- Prior experience in the space industry and understanding of spacecraft structural requirements.
