This internship provides a unique opportunity for highly motivated and intellectually curious individuals to gain hands-on experience in the field of spacecraft structural engineering. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers to contribute to the design, analysis, and testing of spacecraft structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Structural Analysis:
- Assist in performing structural analyses using finite element analysis (FEA) software (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN) to evaluate spacecraft performance under various loads (launch, on-orbit, thermal).
- Develop and validate structural models of spacecraft components (e.g., frames, panels, deployable mechanisms).
- Analyse structural margins, identify critical areas, and recommend design improvements.
Design and Development:
- Contribute to the design and development of lightweight and robust spacecraft structures.
- Research and evaluate new materials and manufacturing techniques for spacecraft applications.
- Assist in the creation of structural drawings and specifications.
Testing and Validation:
- Support the planning and execution of structural tests (e.g., static, vibration, shock).
- Analyse test data and compare results with analytical predictions.
- Document test procedures and results.
Research and Development:
- Conduct research on advanced structural concepts (e.g., deployable structures, composite materials, additive manufacturing).
- Explore innovative solutions to challenging structural engineering problems.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Participate in team meetings and design reviews.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.
Qualifications:
Education:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of fundamental structural engineering principles (mechanics of materials, structural analysis).
- Proficiency in FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN) is highly desirable.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
