Due to an exciting period of growth and new client wins, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a talented Senior HR Consultant to join our lovely team on a full or part time (minimum 4 days per week) basis.  This role can be based out of Edinburgh, Aberdeen or Glasgow.

About Us

Our story began in 2014. Having built a successful HR career within high growth tech companies, and with a passion for technology and innovation, our Founder Lisa Thomson had a vision to deliver pragmatic and commercial HR support tailored perfectly to the needs of early stage and high growth businesses.

Purpose HR is a fast-growing consultancy working with entrepreneurial start-up and scaleup businesses across sectors including a strong client presence in the Technology, Engineering and Life Sciences sectors. Our flexible support enables businesses to scale to their full potential through the attraction, retention and development of key talent.

We are exceptionally proud of our client base and are a trusted HR partner to some of the most innovative and high growth investor backed businesses in Scotland and beyond.

In July 2021 we were excited to announce our majority acquisition by AAB, allowing us to scale our operations and expand to Aberdeen and Glasgow, with future plans to expand across the UK. As an AAB Group Company we have access to 340 business advisors and work together to deliver solutions for clients across the critical business areas of people and finance.

We are a values-driven organisation and pride ourselves on working practices which demonstrate this. Trust, empathy and equality are at the heart of everything we do.

About the job

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a talented individual to deliver HR consultancy and support to a range of high growth, innovative clients and to help mentor and develop less experienced team members in an inclusive and supportive team environment.

No one day is the same as team members Donna and Scott describe.

Our clients are scaling start-ups in dynamic environments which requires us to be both proactive and reactive to ensure we deliver an excellent customer service.

Here is what a typical day involves:

  • Providing commercially focussed advice and recommendations around day-to-day HR and employment issues.
  • Carrying out HR audit reviews and gap analysis projects for new clients
  • For existing clients continuously improving their current HR set ups by recommending and assisting with implementing solutions, changes and practical tools to help them grow.
  • Advising management teams on the practical application of their HR policies and helping them recruit, train and manage their new team members.
  • Mentoring and supporting the development of line managers, acting as first point of contact for technical HR queries and on management support and advice.
  • Researching and implementing cost effective HR tools and solutions that simplify working practices and add value to our clients.
  • Ensuring compliance by establishing customer centric control systems around individual HR policies and practices, whilst keeping up to date with current legislation and how this impacts our clients.
  • Representing Purpose HR at external events and acting as an ambassador to support marketing and sales activities.

About You

To thrive in our dynamic environment, you will need:

  • Solid theoretical knowledge of HR practice, employee relations and legislative requirements and an understanding of how to translate this into simple, effective and practical advice and tools for clients.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to explain complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise, jargon-free manner to clients aligned to their needs and desired outcomes.
  • Excellent questioning skills to carefully understand client issues and needs in order to develop and implement tailored solutions and fulfil requirements.
  • A consultative and flexible approach with the ability to tailor solutions to requirements and take a commercial and client-focused approach to problem solving.
  • Effective people skills building trust, rapport and confidence with clients and internally within the Purpose HR team.
  • Discretion and an awareness and understanding of strict confidentiality requirements.
  • A forward thinking, solutions-focused and innovative approach to improve and develop tools, processes and solutions.
  • Responsive and client-focused recognising the importance of facilitating an excellent client experience and representing the Purpose HR brand externally.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and ongoing learning & personal development.
  • Highly organised, diligent and with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to your own car.
  • Candidates should be CIPD-qualified with previous applied experience of HR processes and development and implementation of policies in SME business environment(s).
  • Full time and part time (minimum 4 days) will be considered

This is a fast-paced role in a growing company and the above list of tasks and responsibilities is not exhaustive. As a member of our supportive team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a broader range of activities than those described above, and to develop your HR and consultancy skills.

Benefits of working for us

We offer a range of flexible working patterns to suit individual circumstances. We operate a hybrid working model and trust our team to manage their working location and pattern.

Purpose HR actively supports employees professional and personal development with access to ongoing training and learning opportunities.

We are offering a competitive salary dependent on skills and experience (£37,500-42k per annum full time, pro rata for part time candidates) and a benefits package including pension, private medical and dental care, life cover and a generous holiday entitlement.
