Space Machines Company (SMC) is an Australian start-up developing in-space logistics and transportation capabilities to cost-effectively insert small satellites into desired low earth orbits (LEO), geostationary earth orbits (GEO) and lunar orbits. SMC vehicles will grow in future to maintain, refuel, repair and decommission satellites and other spacecraft.
THE ROLE:
In this Sydney, Australia based position, you will be actively involved in the propulsion system design and development which includes the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Be responsible of the system architecture design of the spacecraft engines.
- Design/Update the thrust chamber components and provide subsequent functional specifications including equipment components of the engine system and where necessary to follow their development with the suppliers.
- Ability to run simple and complex CFD analyses (combustion and flow) for the combustion devices (injection head, combustion chamber and nozzle extension) and for the equipment (valves) to reach flight qualification with test correlation.
- Work closely with other propulsion engineers (mechanical, avionics and test) to optimize propulsion designs.
- Provide full documentation of analyses and presentations within design reviews.
Profile:
We expect you to have a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience in the aerospace industry. Strong understanding of chemical propulsion system and architecture is required with the ability to conduct some simple or complex CFD analyses for combustion or flow devices. We expect you to be a pro-active, creative, enthusiastic and a result-oriented engineer, with a broad view on propulsion design. Fluency in English is also required.
Experience with following tools is expected: CEA (combustion), Fluent or StarCCM or SimcenterThermal/Flow (CFD), NX siemens or others (CAD), Matlab.
