Space Machines Company (SMC) develops and deploys small to medium sized spacecraft for versatile operations in space. SMC is at the forefront of the Space 2.0 push to commercialise space, driving innovative in-space transportation and logistics capabilities. 

 

The Role:

In this Sydney, Australia based position, you will be actively involved in the Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) activities within the framework of spacecraft engineering for various LEO to LLO missions.  This includes:

  • Implementing NASA and ECSS standards to test and qualify spacecraft and associated sub-systems;
  • Detailed project work in planning, executing and reporting of tests, qualification, verification, calibration activities and operation of space hardware;
  • Translating challenging equipment level requirements into (multiple) board level and flow down requirements for spacecraft projects;
  • Technical steering of multi-disciplinary design team (internal/external) to work according to specification, planning and cost;
  • Primary and secondary, static and dynamic, structural analysis (random vibration, shock, explicit analysis, coupled loads) for spacecraft metallic and composite structures;
  • Background in structural dynamics (shock, modal, transient, and random vibration analysis)
  • Strong CAD experience with commercial tools such as CATIA V5 and SolidWorks;

 

PROFILE

 

We expect you to have a master’s degree in Aerospace, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering (or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent industry experience) with at least 5 years of relevant experience in the aerospace industry.  Spacecraft mission design, qualification and operations experience are highly desirable. A good and practical knowledge of the development flow and the interaction with the other disciplines is a strong advantage.  We expect you to be a pro-active, creative, enthusiastic and results oriented, with a broad view on other spacecraft subsystems.  Fluency in English is also required.
