Inn Host

Stanton House Inn  ·  Greenwich, CT  ·  $20–$22/hr  ·  Full-Time

Every winter, the inn closes for the holidays. Your team gets three weeks of paid time off. That's where we'll start.

This isn't a hotel job. It's closer to being the person who makes the house feel like home — welcoming guests like they're staying at a friend's beautiful historic home, making breakfast, baking pastries, keeping things right, and knowing the neighborhood well enough to send people off in the right direction.

We rely on good systems and clear processes so the day feels calm, not frantic — just solid hosting. If that sounds like work you'd be good at, keep reading. If you're looking for a quiet desk job, this one's probably not it.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

A typical daytime shift (7:30am–3:30pm) moves. You'll open the breakfast room, prep food and bake pastries, interact with guests throughout the morning, inspect rooms before check-in, handle reservations and guest messages, cover lounge food orders on bartender’s days off and during opening hours before 1pm, and keep the common areas clean and welcoming. The job is physical, varied, and social — all day, most of the time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome and engage guests from arrival through departure
  • Prepare and serve breakfast each morning
  • Bake pastries and baked goods for breakfast, afternoon tea, and the lounge; assist with tea service when scheduled
  • Cover lounge food orders (snacks, boards, light bites) during opening hours and on days when the bartender is not scheduled
  • Inspect guest rooms before check-in and after housekeeping
  • Manage reservations and communicate with guests by phone, text, and email — including outbound calls to guests who haven’t stayed with us before
  • Coordinate with the housekeeping and maintenance teams on room readiness and upkeep
  • Keep the breakfast room, front desk, and lounge clean and welcoming throughout your shift

WHO YOU ARE

You don't need a hospitality degree or a hotel background. Most of our best hires didn't come from the industry — they came with warmth, good instincts, and the ability to take care of things without being told twice.

  • You make people feel at home, naturally
  • You're comfortable working on your feet all day
  • Once you know the rhythm, you're comfortable taking the lead on a quieter morning
  • You notice the thing that's slightly off before anyone else does
  • You know (or want to know) the area well enough to give real recommendations
  • You can commit to early mornings, most weekends, and some holidays

SCHEDULE

  • Shifts: 7:30am–3:30pm — daytime only, no evening coverage
  • Weekends: required (most)
  • Some holidays required
  • Winter: The inn closes for the holidays. Your team gets three weeks of paid time off.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Available for daytime shifts including most weekends and some holidays
  • Reliable transportation to Greenwich, CT
  • Comfortable standing, moving, and lifting up to 50 lbs throughout a shift
  • Able to climb stairs — historic property, no elevator
  • This is a non-smoking property
  • Customer-facing or service experience preferred; hospitality background not required

BENEFITS

  • 3 weeks paid time off over winter break
  • $20–$22/hour based on experience
  • 401k with employer match up to 5%
  • Tips shared with the team
  • Up to $220/month on-call bonus
  • Room to grow: We promote from within. Cross-training is standard. We support formal certifications including ServSafe and Cornell’s online Hospitality Management program. We use the Grow to Greatness framework and a required reading library to develop team members into leaders — not just better hosts.
