Lead Roaster - Accepting Resumes at Tandem Coffee

The lead roaster's job is to ensure that every coffee at Tandem is given its due and respect. This means that each coffee is stored well and roasted fresh to accentuate its sweetness and regional characteristics; and that each coffee’s story is told. In the end we want our customers to be blown away by our coffee’s sweetness, consistency of quality and ease of use. 

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Managing the roasting team
• Execute the roasting section of the daily production run
• Assess and maintain the in house green coffee inventory
• Make sure that Tandem has a well balanced offering list at all times
• Be the main point of communication between Tandem and green coffee suppliers
• Develop and update roast profiles based on sensory analysis 
• Input all new coffee data into Cropster, Coffee Info Matrix, and The Inventory Document
• Set up and lead production cuppings
• Clean and maintain the roasting equipment
• Roast and evaluate samples of new coffees from importers and exporters in a timely manner
• Communicate with Production manager and Sales director about the coffee release schedule
• Train new production roasters
• Assess blend components on a monthly basis
• Communicate with the sales director about how coffees are tasting out in the world
• Compose and send a current offerings email to all wholesale accounts and Tandem staff as new coffees become available
• Bag green coffee webstore orders
• Assist in production with bagging, packaging, shipping, and organizing when needed
• Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and well-organized work space

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years roasting experience
• Must enjoy working in a team 
• Must have the ability to maintain positive attitude when faced with a mountain of orders 
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for coffee, customer service, and teamwork
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Drive and general computer skills
• Consistent attendance and punctuality
• Ability to focus on tasks in a busy environment
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be able to work near green coffee and nuts (while listening to Bruce Springsteen)
• Ability to handle 154 lbs and lift 50 pounds above the waist
