Job Purpose                    To work within a small friendly team in the school café to prep, cook and serve a variety of healthy meals to the school community and to help create an inviting, friendly and safe environment in keeping with the ethos of York Steiner School
Duties and responsibilities
  • Work as part of the team to prep, cook and serve a lunch time café service to the school community;
  • Good communication skills;
  • You will observe the school’s Health and Safety Policy;
  • Duties will include:
    • the preparation of foods
    • cooking the meals
    • service
    • washing & drying up
    • general cleaning in the kitchen and the café
    • supervision of volunteers

You may be asked to undertake additional duties from time to time – to be agreed in consultation with the Operations Manager. However, any such other duties will be reasonable in relation to the individual’s skills and abilities.

Essential qualifications and attributes
  • A keen interest and enthusiasm for cooking;
  • Knowledge of cooking and serving food in a commercial setting;
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop in the role;
  • Reliable and punctual;
  • A good standard of personal hygiene;
  • The ability to work under pressure, follow instructions and see tasks through to completion;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • The ability to work alone and/or as part of a team.
Desirable qualifications and attributes
  • A Basic Food Hygiene Qualification;
  • Experience of school kitchen work;
  • Understanding of food safety requirements

Annual Leave: 28 days pro rata (inclusive of bank holidays) in the first year, 31 days pro rata in the second year before rising to 33 days pro rata after 3 years. There will be a 6 month probationary period.
